Translucent shelf lighting is a backlighting application: the LED strip mounts under or behind the shelf, and the glass or acrylic panel diffuses the light. The critical variables are strip density (higher density = fewer visible dots), mounting distance from the glass, and panel thickness and translucency level.
Frosted glass diffuses light better than clear glass — if your client is choosing the glass, recommend frosted or sandblasted for the best light quality. Acrylic panels accept edge-lit mounting (strips on the side edge, light conducts through the material) for an ultra-clean look with no visible strip.
